Acupuncture And Chinese Herbs In Relation To
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Acupuncture is a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that involves the insertion of needles into acupuncture points along the meridians of the body. Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners believe that if the immune system is strengthened then this can help to improve the quality of life for a CFS patient. Sometimes a qualified acupuncturist will recommend that a patient take a Chinese herb or a variety of Chinese herbs in combination with acupuncture treatments to allow for the greater production of energy in the body of a CFS sufferer.
Chinese herbs are very much like nutritional supplements or multivitamins. An acupuncturist might prescribe Chinese herbs in the form of a Chinese herbal formula if he or she feels that it is called for. For example, it is common for Chinese herbs to be prescribed to a patient who suffers from back spasms. According to an acupuncturist, the herbal formula will help to further release the tension from the back spasm and it will encourage the smooth flow of the meridians that have been affected.
There are many traditional Chinese herbs that are recommended for those who suffer from CFS. Some of these include, but are not limited to, Bi Yan Pian, Chuan Qiong Cha Tiao Wan, Huan Lien Shang, Yin Chiao, Yao Tong Pian, Astragalis, Panax Ginseng, Tso Tzu, Otic, Ching Wan Hung, et cetera.
Only an acupuncturist can decide if a patient is in need of some kind of Chinese herb or not. As previously mentioned, it has a great deal to do with what type of condition a person is suffering from. The milder a condition is, or if a condition is in its beginning stages, it might only be necessary to have acupuncture treatments and to forego Chinese herbs. It is also important to let the acupuncturist know if you are taking any kind of medication for any other condition, whether it be a prescription drug or over the counter. Chinese herbs can have their share of side effects if they are taken with other drugs so make sure you disclose everything about what you are taking to the acupuncturist.
If you are prescribed Chinese herbs make sure you take the proper dosage at the proper time. Never change the schedule yourself or never take too many at a time as this could be dangerous to your health and it could potentially cause setbacks with your treatments. Ask your acupuncturist questions if need be concerning whether the herbs need to be take with food or not and what happens if you forget to take a dosage. Do you skip it all together and take the next dosage at the correct time or what do you do?
Chinese herbs in combination with acupuncture treatments have been known to help a variety of health conditions beside chronic fatigue syndrome. Some of the most common ones they are able to provide benefit to are pain and inflammation in general, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), fatigue, fibromyalgia, proper neurological functioning, body composition management as well as helping with emotional and mental related concerns such as anxiety, depression, mood disorders and so on. |
